LAHORE – As October approaches and weather conditions are anticipated to change, the Punjab government is preparing to revise school timings across the province. This adjustment aims to enhance the educational experience for students and align school schedules with the shifting climate.
Current School Timings in Punjab
At present, schools in Punjab follow a structured timetable:
- Single Shift Schools: Classes commence at 8:00 AM and conclude at 1:30 PM from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, students finish their lessons by 12:00 PM.
- Double Shift Schools:
- Morning sessions run from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
- Afternoon sessions are scheduled from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
- For Friday, the evening shift operates from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM.

Expected School Timings from October 2024
Based on previous adjustments made in October 2023, it is expected that new timings will be announced soon. Although the final decision rests with the provincial government, preliminary insights suggest the following changes:
- For Boys’ Schools: Classes may begin at 8:30 AM and end at 2:30 PM.
- For Girls’ Schools: Classes are likely to start at 8:15 AM and wrap up by 2:15 PM.
- Friday Timings:
- Boys will attend school from 8:30 AM until 12:15 PM.
- Girls will start at 8:15 AM and finish their day at 12:00 PM.
For double-shift schools, the proposed timings include:
- Morning classes beginning at 7:45 AM and ending at 12:15 PM.
- Evening classes starting at 12:30 PM and concluding at 5:00 PM, with a special Friday schedule beginning at 1:30 PM after Jumma prayers.
