For the first time in Punjab, a new program is introducing micro-libraries and building ‘City Walls‘ to celebrate the culture of small towns. This exciting initiative began in Wazirabad, a city renowned for its rich literary and commercial history.

As part of the Chief Minister’s ‘Read Punjab Programme,’ book racks for micro-libraries have been installed in public parks and at bus and railway stations in Wazirabad. Initially, over 1,000 books are available at 15 locations for residents and visitors, with another 1,000 books set to be added in the next two to three months.

The program aims to encourage reading in parks and while people wait for transportation. To protect the books from the weather, rainproof covers have been placed over the racks.

In line with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision, special walls have been constructed in Wazirabad tehsil to showcase the area’s cultural heritage. The ‘Walls of Wazirabad,’ ‘Alipur Chatha,’ and ‘Gakhar’ serve as important cultural landmarks that reflect the unique identity of each city in the tehsil.

This initiative promotes reading while honoring the rich culture and history of small towns in Punjab.
