In a boost for minorities and small farmers in Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz recently announced two new welfare initiatives: the Minority Card and the Kisan Card. These programs aim to provide financial relief and resources to deserving families across the province.
At a Diwali celebration in Lahore, CM Maryam Nawaz highlighted her commitment to Punjab’s minority communities, describing them as a “crown on her head.” She announced that Minority Cards would be issued province-wide on December 20, giving deserving families access to financial support.
In a special Diwali gesture, Maryam Nawaz also announced a one-time financial gift of Rs 150,000 for 1,400 minority families, aimed at bringing joy and stability during the festival season.
Earlier, in Hafizabad, CM Nawaz launched an expanded Kisan Card Program to support small farmers. Through this program, farmers can access loans up to Rs 150,000 per crop season to help with seeds, fertilizers, and pesticide costs.
The Kisan Card budget has been increased to support 750,000 cards, up from the original 500,000, broadening the program’s reach. Farmers can register by sending their ID number via SMS to 8070 for easy access.
In another boost for agriculture, CM Nawaz announced free laser levelers for wheat farmers with 12.5 to 25 acres and free tractors for those with larger landholdings. This equipment will help improve crop yield and efficiency.
Further supporting farmers, Nawaz also declared that the government would rent out agricultural equipment at no profit, making essential tools more affordable for small-scale farmers.
These initiatives show the Punjab government’s commitment to inclusive welfare and support for minority and farming communities. Both programs aim to foster long-term growth and stability in Punjab’s diverse communities.
